Curry powder is more native to the South of India, whilst Garam Masala is more common in the North. Additionally, curry powder is typically added at the start of cooking while Garam Masala is added at the end.
Although they typically share some ingredients, Garam Masala is usually thought to give a more rounded warmth as opposed to the more pointed heat of curry powder.
