The Pungent Spice category contains some of the best known spices. Indeed, the spiciness and heat of chilli, pepper and mustard are sometimes what we think of first when we think of spice.
Quite often, a little of these spices go a long way when flavouring a dish. But there are always those for whom this heat is an integral part of the joy of eating.
Garlic is similarly a great divider. Like Marmite, people seem to love it or hate it. I am in the former camp, whereas my father insisted he could detect it before entering my kitchen and would turn up his nose accordingly.
